![]() An argument between two Dwarves for instance, might be easily resolved if you’re a Dwarf yourself, whereas if you were any other race, you’d be perceived as an outsider and thus lose access to that particular solution. Depending on your character’s chosen race, class, abilities and social standing, the world will perceive you in a certain way and so the options that you have to interact with it will be different too. ![]() More than anything though, Pillars of Eternity is all about choice and from the moment you generate your character, you’ve already made your first. From history books, dusty tomes and long forgotten texts through to evocative descriptions of abandoned buildings, crumbling statues and much, much more besides, Pillars of Eternity text doesn’t just lend credence to the fact that it’s massive it also happens to be heavily detailed and feels appropriately lived in, too. Pointedly, much of the text that you’ll come across in Pillars of Eternity serves to flesh out the gargantuan amounts of lore that the game encompasses. A shared similarity with Torment however, is that while a fair amount of Pillars of Eternity is voiced by talented actor folk, there is still a good amount of reading to be done, and for those of you who cannot abide with dealing with all that business, Obsidian’s game might hold a little less allure than it does for others. Set in a world of fantasy where magic and science collide and where souls don’t seem to be going to the afterlife quite as they should, it’s fair to say that Pillars of Eternity provides an ample canvas upon which players can indulge their adventuring habits.Īn isometric RPG with pre-rendered backgrounds, Pillars of Eternity’s closest kin in this regard is arguably Torment: Tides of Numenera, though of the two, Obsidian’s game is far less abstract by comparison. If you’ve ever sat back whilst watching Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings movies and pined to be in a sprawling fantasy epic of your own, Pillars of Eternity scratches that itch with almost overwhelming vigour (the orchestral score alone feels like it could have belonged in those movies). A sprawling, epic adventure where choices carry real consequences If you were looking for another world, with different stories and other people’s lives to be part of, then Pillars of Eternity is absolutely going to be your jam. ![]() In our review of Pillars of Eternity on PS4, we said, “ Pillars of Eternity was certainly crafted with PC in mind, but it’s no less an enjoyable experience on console… Yes, I missed a mouse and keyboard with item management and combat, but as a whole, I’m incredibly impressed with how Obsidian has managed to translate this hardcore cRPG to console.Like all the best examples of the genre, such intimidation soon gives way to a deep sense of wonderment, and Pillars of Eternity, with its stunningly realised world, where deep characters and evocative stories intertwine with remarkable amounts of player freedom, is an adventure that looks to hold your attention for weeks and months, rather than hours and days. So I would say that you should pick the platform where you’re most comfortable with the controller.”Ĭhris also confirmed that there’s no way to disable the UI on consoles at this time, but they’ll “look into it and maybe we can add some functionality in a future patch.” They’re pretty similar, but due to the different architectures there are some technical differences. But it kind of depends on how hard they are to implement for this game.Īs for any differences between the PS4 and Xbox One versions, Chris said, “No major differences really. We’ve been talking about a few things that may find it’s way into the game later. No PS4 Pro specific features on release (other that better fps). Pillars of Eternity 2 was successfully funded on Fig earlier this year (it received $4.4 million on a goal of $1.1 million), and it’s scheduled for release in 2018 on PC.Įlsewhere in the AMA, Chris from Paradox jumped in and revealed that there’s no specific PS4 Pro support right now: ![]() “We have no plans to put Deadfire on consoles at this time, but I certainly wouldn’t say it’s outside the realm of possibility, by any stretch,” he said. In an impromptu AMA on Reddit about Pillars of Eternity, Eric from Obsidian said there’s no plans at the moment to bring Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire to PS4. It remains to be seen how big today’s update is, but the pre-launch Pillars of Eternity update for PS4 was 4GB, players have revealed. Fixed crash when changing portraits in character creation.
